Speak the Truth

30 January 2022

Sermon given by the Rev. Nathan Stomberg on 4 Epiphany (1/30/2022).

We are good at making excuses. When Jeremiah was called to prophesy, he objected, “I am too young.” When Moses was called to confront Pharaoh, he replied, “I cannot speak well.” We all have excuses for why we choose to disobey God. What’s your excuse?

Beloved, we cannot afford to excuse ourselves from the work of ministry. We cannot rely on others to speak the truth while we coast through life. God has anointed each and every one of us with the responsibility to serve Him and share the Gospel. When we excuse ourselves of that responsibility, we are being disobedient, and we harm not only ourselves but the next generation as well – because we are robbing them of an opportunity to hear God’s Word.

Readings: Jeremiah 1:4-10; Psalm 71:1-6, 15-17; 1 Corinthians 14:12b-20; Luke 4:21-32
