Topic: Obedience

Obedience to God is the only way to true happiness. But in order to trust and obey God, we must first abandon our pride and admit that we are no longer going to do things “our way.” Only when we begin boast in the Lord and not in ourselves will we know the joy of salvation and help others to find their way to God.

There is the expectation that those to whom we are accountable will eventually visit us, and we should want to have our very best prepared to make a good impression. The same is true of our preparation for the coming Day of the Lord.

Like the widow before Elijah, like every believer, we have the choice whether or not to obey the Word of the Lord. Obedience requires courage, and we will require both to properly steward God’s gifts to us. Like the widow, we are called to obey God, even if it doesn’t immediately make sense to us. And if we trust and obey, God will reward us, as He has promised. Listen as the Rev. Galloway discusses the confidence we should have in obedience to God’s Word.

As the sexual revolution confuses male and female, and overtakes our schools and daily life, we will be forced to confront these issues increasingly within our families. The answer to sin and deviant behavior in our families, as a Christian, is not to bail on what you believe in. It is not to tell your neighbor what he wants to hear. The answer is to hold your ground in appropriate love. Are our families complicated? Absolutely. Will we see an increase in alternative lifestyles? Absolutely. But how will you be remembered? May others know that you belonged to Christ.

Joshua commanded the people of Israel, “Choose this day whom you will serve.” In today’s sermon, the Rector reminds us of the urgency of this decision the Christian life today. Do we obey God, or man? Joshua’s words warn us: If we don’t choose now, then by default we will find ourselves looking back after a long series of incremental changes, realizing we renounced the LORD long ago.

We don’t get to “play nice” with sin. When we ignore or keep around “small” sins because it is convenient for us, we forsake the Truth and embrace falsehood. God requires us to embrace his WHOLE commandment – not to keep us down, but so we may truly flourish. Watch this sermon by the Rector to learn more.

The Apostle Paul urges us to walk in a manner worthy of our calling. Such a way of living requires us to “walk the line”, as the great Johnny Cash song goes. God requires us to meet a high standard in following Christ Jesus. But thankfully, Christ sustains us along the way.

Every day, there are many voices competing for our attention. Social media, television, friends, family, and finances are among those many competing voices. Through the chaos of life, we must remember that we will always become like those people or things we listen to most.

Our striving is in vain, if we do not keep the Lord Jesus Christ always before us. And if obedience to Christ is central to our lives, He will empower us to do great things for him.
